New Charges Filed In Airline Bomb Case

New terrorism charges were brought Wednesday against "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the man accused of trying to blow up a Christmas-day flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.

The AP reports:

The new charges against Abdulmutallab are conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries and an additional count of possession of a destructive device in furtherance of a crime of violence. They each carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Abdulmutallab allegedly concealed a bomb in his underwear and attempted to detonate it as a Northwest flight carrying 292 people approached its landing in Detroit.

Abdulmutallab is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in federalcourt in Detroit.
