After nine months, Iraqi lawmakers approved incumbent prime minister Nouri al-Maliki for a second term in office. Maliki, a Shiite, received support from opponent, former prime minister and Sunni, Ayad Allawi. As Reuters reports, politicians bickered for most of the year after March elections delivered no clear winner who could claim Iraqi leadership. Female lawmakers are angry that so far, just one woman has been asked to serve in the Cabinet. AP reports MP Alaa Talabani read a statement of protest today in parliament.
