Employers Added 187,000 Jobs Last Month, Private Study Signals

"Private-sector employment increased by 187,000 from December to January on a seasonally adjusted basis," the latest ADP National Employment Report says.

The privately produced report also shows that the "estimated change of employment from November to December was revised down by 50,000 to 247,000 from the previously reported increase of 297,000."

As the Associated Press reminds us, "the ADP report comes ahead of Friday's official employment report, which includes both the private and government sectors. Economists expect the Labor Department report to show that nonfarm payrolls grew by 145,000 in January and that the unemployment rate inched up to 9.5 percent from December's 9.4 percent."
