Basketball's Better Story: Carmelo Trade Or Caltech Win?

Sure, it's big (though not surprising) news that basketball superstar Carmelo Anthony is moving from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks.

The New York Post says that trade puts the Knicks "back in the game." ESPN.com calls it a "blockbuster deal" and quotes the Miami Heat's LeBron James as saying "the Knicks are back."

But here's the much more fun story from the world of basketball: The Caltech men's basketball team beat Occidental last night, 46-45.

And that, as Caltech's information office says, means the school "has won its first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) game since the 1984-1985 season, breaking its 310-game losing streak."

That had been, the Los Angeles Times adds, "the longest conference losing streak in the nation." Just think about it: Ronald Reagan was the president; cellphones were the size of bricks; Twitter was ... only something that birds did.
