Obama: Time To 'Harness' The Unity Inspired By Bin Laden's Demise

Moments ago at the White House, President Obama told a bipartisan group of congressional lawmakers that he hopes the bringing to justice of al-Qaida mastermind Osama bin Laden draws Republicans and Democrats closer together and that they can then "harness some of that unity and some of that pride to confront many of the challenges we still face."

Echoing comments he made last night when announcing the news of bin Laden's death and again earlier today, the president said that "there is a pride in what this nation stands for and what we can achieve that runs far deeper than party and far deeper than politics."

He also hailed the "heroes that carried out this incredibly dangerous mission" and the intelligence and military professions "who made it possible."
