An Open Story

Since March 2010, the open source code for the app has been available. We invite you to help us iterate and improve the app. If you use the code, let us know - we'd love to hear from you.

If you are a developer, dig into our code. You can work with other coders passionate about NPR, Android and open source.

If you're just a fan, you can still participate. Find us on Twitter @nprandroid and let us know your ideas, concerns and complaints.

Interested? You can read more about the app's "bazaare" beginning and it's continued evolution.

Community Driven

The NPR News Android app is our only major product to be produced as an open source project. We believe this matches perfectly with NPR's public service mission. Public media implies our audience has a stake in our product, and open source projects are a means to better connect to our stakeholders.

We created this video to help galvanize the project and open the doors to contribution. Read the original call to action.
