New Questions About Timing Of Romney's Bain Departure

July 20, 2012 The Boston Globe is reporting new details about Mitt Romney's lingering ties to his private equity firm, Bain Capital, after he left Boston to run the Winter Olympics. The Globe cites interviews and public records in saying that Romney was "not merely an absentee owner" between 1999 and 2002.

GOP To Make 31st Attempt To Repeal Obamacare Act

July 9, 2012 Over the past 18 months, the GOP-controlled House has taken 30 floor votes to try to repeal the health care law. The first attempt came on Jan. 19, 2011 just two weeks after the GOP took control of the House. On Monday, a House panel takes up another bill to repeal the law.

Defense Giant Says Budget Cuts Could Mean Pink Slips

Defense contractor Lockheed Martin says it will be forced to send notices of possible layoffs to its entire workforce if proposed federal budget cuts go into effect.

June 27, 2012 With dramatic cutbacks in defense spending looming if Congress fails to reach a budget deal, defense systems manufacturer Lockheed Martin says it will be forced to send layoff warnings to more than 100,000 employees this fall.

California's Top-Two Primary System Faces First Statewide Test

Abel Maldonado, a former California state senator and current congressional candidate, pushed for the change to the top-two primary system. He says he thinks the system will lead to "more open-minded and more reasonable" officials.

June 4, 2012 Under California's new system, the top two finishers in the primary move on to the general election, regardless of party. Backers hope this system will favor moderates. It could be years before it's clear if that's true, but the system is already changing how political operatives work.
