Reminders Of BP's Oil Spill Linger Along Gulf Coast

October 28, 2010 More than three months since BP plugged its underwater gusher, crews continue to clean hundreds of miles of soiled shoreline from Louisiana to the Florida panhandle. Tar balls still wash ashore and after the tide goes out, the sand has what looks like a light coffee or tea stain.

September 10, 2010 Scientists on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico are finding a substantial layer of oily sediment stretching for dozens of miles in all directions. Their discovery suggests that a lot of oil from the Deepwater Horizon didn't simply evaporate or dissipate into the water — it settled to the seafloor.
