Plastic Surgeons Say Demand Is Surging For Chin Enhancements

Plastic surgeons see a surge in demand from those of us without naturally chiseled chins.

April 16, 2012 A big group of plastic surgeons say that chin enhancement was the fastest growing surgical procedure they performed for cosmetic purposes in the U.S. last year. More than 20,000 chin operations were performed in 2011, a 71 percent increase compared with 2010.

Registry Needed To Assess Silicone Breast Implants

September 1, 2011 Manufacturers of silicone breast implants have done such a poor job of tracking patients that it's impossible to know if the devices have long-term health and safety risks, consumer advocates said a meeting of experts advising the Food and Drug Administration.

FDA Finds Silicone Breast Implants Safe, But Prone To Fail With Age

New York plastic surgeon Brad Jacobs holds a silicone gel breast implant in 2006. That year the FDA allowed silicone implants back on the market, after a 14- year hiatus.

June 22, 2011 In research on women who had breast augmentation before 2006, 20 to 40 percent of those who got silicone implants for cosmetic reasons had subsequent surgery to deal with problems. The proportion was even higher for women who got implants after treatment for breast cancer.
