October 3, 2012 NWNewsWashington state apple growers are harvesting the second-largest crop in history, but it appears there won't be enough workers to get the fruit off the trees quickly enough. The next few weeks are when the bulk of the region's fruit is picked. The labor shortage comes as apple prices are high.

Washington State Lawmakers OK Gay Marriage

February 8, 2012 The move would make the state the seventh in the nation to allow same-sex couples to wed. Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign the measure into law next week. The vote comes a day after a federal appeals court ruled that California's ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional.

February 2, 2012 By a 28-21 vote late Wednesday, the Washington State Senate approved a bill legalizing gay marriage in the state. The state House is expected to do the same next week and Gov. Christine Gregoire has said she will sign the legislation.
