April 18, 2013 Dog owners have similar germs growing on their skin: a signature blend of bacteria from canines' tongues and paws. Scientists couldn't find an analogous signature for cat owners. Perhaps cats are just being selfish.

Officials in Jiangmen, China, have cancelled a ban on dogs in urban areas. Here, a man plays with dogs in Shanghai. The city, China's largest, slashed its steep fees for dog registration and set a one-dog per family limit, trying to control a soaring pet population and curb rabies.

August 4, 2011 News of a city's ban on dogs hit media outlets in the U.S. and England Wednesday. Now it seems that the outrage of animal lovers in Jiangmen and elsewhere in China prompted government officials to reconsider the ban, which would have led to the killing of thousands of dogs.
