Israel Fires Warning Shots Into Syria; Vows Action Against Gaza Rocket Fire
November 11, 2012 The shots — the first that Israel has fired at Syria since the 1973 Yom Kippur War — come just days after a Syrian mortar shell hit a target inside the Israel-occupied Golan Heights. Israel noted the Syrian firing was part of that country's civil war. Separately, Israel also said it was ready to respond to a barrage of rocket fire from Gaza.

Hamas, Fatah Sign Palestinian Unity Accord
May 4, 2011 The rival Palestinian political factions have agreed to reconcile after four bitter years of infighting and turmoil. The Hamas and Fatah groups met in Cairo to formally approve the agreement that calls for unified Palestinian elections next year.
