California Lawmakers Won't Get Paid Until Budget Is Balanced

June 22, 2011 State Controller John Chiang says a new law gives him the authority to withhold legislators' pay. He's being hailed by many in his state as a hero. The action is saving taxpayers about $48,000 a day.
