Rescuers carry a survivor who was buried for 17 days under the rubble of a building that collapsed in Saver, near Dhaka, Bangladesh.

May 10, 2013 More than 1,000 people are known to have been killed by the collapse of the building, which housed garment factories. In recent days, searchers had not expected to find any survivors. Instead, they had been focusing on recovering bodies. On Friday, 17 days after the disaster, a woman came out alive.

May 7, 2013 Neighbors heard a woman desperately shouting for help from inside a home. After a man helped her get out, authorities discovered that Amanda Berry and two other young women who had been missing for between 9 and 11 years had been inside the house. Three men have been arrested.

May 5, 2013 Israeli warplanes attacked a military research center near Damascus early Sunday, according to intelligence reports and Syrian state media. Israel has offered no comment on the raid, which came days after a similar strike that reportedly targeted missiles intended for Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
