June 9, 2012 Today had the promise of history — that is, until the horse I'll Have Another was scratched from the Belmont Stakes. Also scratched: hopes for a long-awaited Triple Crown winner. It was yet another piece of bad news for the horse racing industry, which is under new scrutiny over the safety and treatment of the horses.

Ray Ewry wins the standing high jump at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Ewry won 10 gold medals, all after having overcome polio as a child.

May 23, 2012 Ray Ewry is an all-but-forgotten Olympic great from the early 1900s with a remarkable story. Before winning his 10th gold medal in 10 tries, Ewry accomplished something truly remarkable: He learned to walk again.

Wildcats Roll To 8th NCAA Title, Coach Calipari's 1st

Anthony Davis of the Kentucky Wildcats puts up a shot over Jeff Withey of the Kansas Jayhawks in the NCAA Division I men's basketball final Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

April 3, 2012 The University of Kentucky defeated the University of Kansas 67-59 in the men's basketball final in New Orleans. It's the Wildcats' first title since 1998 and the first ever for head coach John Calipari. Led by tournament MVP Anthony Davis and other young stars, Kentucky dominated the tournament.
