Day to Day, November 3, 2003 · Every fall season, designers roll out next year's fashions for spring in elaborately staged runway shows -- usually in Paris, Milan or New York.

Well, now add another city to that list: Los Angeles. Last week, not one but two major fashion events competed against one another in an orgy of clothes, money and celebrity.

Day to Day reporter Brian Unger and sidekick Rob Sachs headed to Smashbox Studios in Culver City to investigate the phenomena. Somehow they were allowed in -- mingling with celebrities, rock stars, designers and bikini models.
