    U.S. OKs New Colon-Cancer Drug

    Morning Edition, February 27, 2004 · The Food and Drug Administration approves a new drug for colon cancer -- the second-biggest cancer killer. Called Avastin, the new drug blocks tumors' blood supply. Earlier in February, the FDA approved Erbitux, which shrinks colon tumors by blocking a protein they need to grow. Each drug is the first of its kind. NPR's Richard Knox reports.
