Liane talks to jazz pianist Fred Hersch. He''s started recording a series of "songbook" albums two years ago, including a solo piano CD of the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein and the music of Billy Strayhorn on solo piano, and with various ensembles. His latest in the series is a solo piano album of music by Thelonious Monk. In 1994, Hersch came out publicly as a gay musician who had the human immunodeficiency virus, but was asymptomatic. The new album is titled THELONIOUS: FRED HERSCH PLAYS MONK (NONESUCH). This item is unavailable due to copyright issues.
