Bill Russo is one the most influential composers in jazz. He's worked with giants such as Charlie Parker, Stan Kenton, and Duke Ellington. But Jackie Northam reports that despite Mr. Russo's renown, there is opposition to a proposal to establish his Chicago Jazz Ensemble as the city's repertory company.
