French President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy is reaching out to the United States and signaling that he plans to take a leadership role in getting France "back in Europe."

Political analyst Nicole Bacharan says Sarkozy strongly supports ideas of democracy and freedom and that he speaks his mind in a clear way.

She talks to Debbie Elliott about what Sarkozy's election will mean for French relations with the United States and Europe.
