With his long-running trio in tow, Louisiana slide-guitar great Sonny Landreth returned to Mountain Stage in March 2008, recording in Ashland, Ky. Landreth self-released his latest album, From the Reach, which features guest spots by Eric Clapton, Vince Gill, Eric Johnson and Jimmy Buffett. Here, he plays with Dave Ranson on bass and Mike Burch on drums.

In the 1970s, Landreth played a stint with zydeco king Clifton Chenier and became an in-demand session player before pursuing his own solo recording and songwriting career, starting with 1995's Outward Bound. His style and technique each expand on conventional slide-guitar methods.

"South of I-10" and "Pedal to Metal" are both live staples of Landreth's, while the recorded version of "Storm of Worry" (on From the Reach) features guitar by Eric Clapton.
