Abraham Verghese's 'The Tennis Partner'

In his latest book, "The Tennis Partner", physician Abraham Verghese writes about a painful secret many doctors live with - that of addiction. But in this story, it isn''t just any casual colleague struggling to stay away from drugs, it is one of Verghese''s closest and dearest friends, a medical student named David. Daniel talks with Verghese who says he wrote this book after David''s death as an homage to the kind of male friendship rarely seen in literature today. ("The Tennis Partner" 1998 HarperCollins)
