We find out about another news-making giraffe: in the early 1800s, one beautiful animal traveled from Egypt to Paris as a gift to the King of France. Nicknamed Zarafa, she was a national fascination: as she made her way on foot from Marseille to Paris, the giraffe inspired fashions, haircuts and artistic compositions. As writer Michael Allin says, she brought back to the world a sense of wonder. He documents her journey in his new book: "ZARAFA: A Giraffe''s True Story, from Deep in Africa to the Heart of Paris."
