Singing Scientist Teaches Through Song

When Johnny Cash sang "Ring of Fire," geology was probably the last thing on his mind. But when you factor geo-scientist Richard B. Alley into the equation, a song about love becomes a learning tool for budding geology students at Penn State University.

At his job as a glaciologist and professor at Penn State University, one of Dr. Richard B. Alley's most important teaching tools is a pick. Alley uses music to teach in the classroom, often singing to his students as he accompanies himself on the guitar. He speaks with Host Liane Hansen about his unique teaching method.
