Obama Plans To Cut Deficit In Half By End Of Term

text sizeAAA
February 22, 2009

President Barack Obama is expected to announce plans to cut the federal deficit in half by the end of his first term. He inherited a deficit of more than $1 trillion from the last administration — a figure that doesn't include the new $787 billion stimulus package. The president will outline ways to reduce that deficit on Monday at a White House fiscal policy summit, and then again on Tuesday when he addresses a joint session of Congress.

NPR's David Welna speaks with host Liane Hansen about President Obama's upcoming joint address to Congress.
