Germany's New Leader

NPR''s Edward Lifson reports from Berlin that Gerhard Schroeder was confirmed today as Germany''s new Chancellor, at the head of a center-left Social Democratic coalition. During the campaign, Schroeder promised to move Germany toward the political center, following 16 years of conservative politics under Helmut Kohl''s Christian Democrats. But since winning the election, Schroeder appears to be forming a traditional leftist government.
