Winner of the 1998 Mercury Music Prize for Best Album, beating out the more established likes of Massive Attack and The Verve, Gomez has gone on to get tighter and more confident while slowly building a U.S. fan base. The band's sixth studio album, A New Tide, finds Gomez returning to its freewheeling and psychedelic sound, with songs ranging from solid rock to cool, rhythmic exchanges to bluesy melodies. Imaginative and eclectic, it combines hefty rock beats with pop choruses and hints of country.
