Court Rules In Pinochet's Favor

NPR''s Sarah Chayes reports that London''s High Court has ruled that former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet is immune from prosecution. The court ruled that Pinochet''s arrest on October 16th by British authorities was illegal. Pinochet however remains in British custody pending an appeal. Lawyers for Pinochet requested the ruling, insisting that their client has diplomatic immunity. They also argued that the Spanish judge who instigated the arrest has no jurisdiction in the matter since Pinochet is not a Spanish citizen.
