German Elections

NPR's Edward Lifson reports that German Chancellor Helmut Kohl is hoping that the political and economic turmoil worldwide will convince voters to elect him to a fifth term later this month. He trails opposition leader Gerhard Schroeder in opinion polls, but has been closing the gap in recent days.
