House Democrats Seek Compromise

NPR's White House Correspondent Mara Liasson reports that Congressional Democrats are trying to work out a compromise that would avoid impeachment proceedings against President Clinton, but that House Speaker Newt Gingrich is opposed. White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry said yesterday that President Clinton would consider appearing in person before the House Judiciary Committee to answer questions about Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's report.
