— NPR's Mandalit Del Barco reports on the shooting that occurred at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon that left one person dead and twenty-three others wounded. Fifteen-year-old Kipland Kinkel, upset at being suspended for bringing a firearm into the school previously, opened fire with a rifle at a school assembly. Kinkel was tackled by classmates when the weapon ran out of ammunition and he was shortly released into custody. A police check at his home revealed the bodies of two adults, believed to be his parents. State officials have announced that Kinkel will be tried as an adult under state law.
