Supreme Court & Standards Of Decency

-- NPR's Nina Totenberg previews today's arguments in a Supreme Court case involving federal funding for the arts and publicly accepted standards of decency. At issue is a federal law which requires the National Endowment for the Arts to consider `standards of decency and respect for the values of the American public' when it awards government grant money to artists. For the NEA, the Supreme Court's eventual decision could mean life or death. For others who receive federal money, from public aid lawyers to public broadcasters, the decision has serious implications.
