CBS Ending 'Guiding Light'

CBS said Wednesday the long-running soap Guiding Light will have its final episode in Sept. 18. The show, which holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running television drama, has had a 72-year run that predates TV.

After 72 years of weddings and funerals, drunken confessions, faked pregnancies and deathly illnesses, "Guiding Light" is going off the air.

BLOCK: It was truly a soap opera back when it started on the radio in 1937 and when it moved to TV in the '50s. It holds the Guinness World record for the longest running television drama. And today CBS announced that the cliffhangers will be resolved on September 18th.
