— Susan Goodman reports recent studies on "ingnition interlocks"- devices that require a driver to pass a breathalyzer test before the car will start- have resulted in dramatic drop in re-arrests of those convicted of drunk driving. Presently 35 states have authorized use of interlocks and the program is mainly voluntary due to cost. However, the impressive results have many states considering making interlock programs mandatory.
