Writer-director Guillermo del Toro grew up in Mexico; his film Pan's Labyrinth, which won three Academy Awards this year, is out now on DVD. With his friends and fellow directors Alfonso Cuaron (Y tu Mama Tambien) and Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu (Amores Perros), he's sometimes known as one of the Three Amigos.
