Executing Women

— NPR's Adam Hochberg reports on the last woman to be put to death in the US, Velma Barfield of North Carolina. When Barfield was executed in 1984 for a poisoning murder, some said that women would begin receiving the penalty more frequently. But fourteen years have passed, and American society is still uncomfortable with next Tuesday's scheduled execution of Texan Karla Faye Tucker.
