House Hearings On Fundraising

—NPR's Nina Totenberg reports on today's House hearing at which Attorney General Janet Reno and FBI Director Louis Freeh testify about Reno's refusal to recommend that an independent counsel investigate allegations of illegal fundraising during last year's election campaign. Congressional Republicans contend that Reno has a conflict of interest because she was appointed by President Clinton. She maintains that there is insufficient evidence to justify appointing an independent counsel.
