Amtrak Troubles

— NPR's Steve Inskeep reports that railway maintenance workers have extended their strike deadline against Amtrak by a week, averting a shutdown today of passenger service along the busy Northeast corridor. The delay allows time for a possible settlement. Although Amtrak is losing money and faces possible bankruptcy, the union continues to demand a modest pay increase.
