Indian Casinos & Campaign Finance

— NPR's Peter Overby reports the Senate committee investigating 1996 campaign finace abuses will focus on the town of Hudson, Wisconsin this week. Three tribes of Chippewa Indians wanted to build a casino in the town two years ago, and the federal government denied the request. The Chippewa have filed a 175-million dollar lawsuit, saying the decision was made because a nearby casino didn't want any competition. That casino is run by an Indian tribe that contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Democratic National Committee last year. The Clinton Administration says there is no connection.
