— NPR's Melissa Block reports that three top assistants to Teamsters' President Ron Carey entered guilty pleas in federal court yesterday to charges that they conspired in illegal fundraising schemes that channeled money into Carey's 1996 reelection campaign. A federal official is considering whether Carey should be allowed to run again for reelection to the Teamsters' presidency. The union is under federal supervision.
