Fundraising Probe Intensifies

— NPR's Chitra Ragavan reports on the latest developments from Washington on investigations into the propriety of Democratic fundraising during last year's election campaign. Over the weekend, Attorney General Janet Reno announced she is ordering a preliminary inquiry into fundraising phone calls that President Clinton may have made from the White House. A similar inquiry is underway into calls Vice President Gore says he made from his office. At issue is whether an independent counsel will be appointed to carry out a full scale investigation.
