Campaign Finance Reform

— NPR's Elizabeth Arnold reports a Senate committee finally agreed this week to take up the issue of campaign finance reform. The full Senate will consider changes to the campaign finance laws and debate the new McCain-Feingold bill later this year. The bill was streamlined and stripped of two elements usually used to kill it. Public financing of campaigns and limits on spending. The bill does still ban soft-money contributions and limit some types of political ads.
