Blending country, folk and rock influences, Jones Street Station crafts a song that's both sweet and sad.
Jones Street Station may be based in New York City, but its roots-pop sound is situated on down-home dirt roads. Currently between albums — it released Overcome in 2007, and is polishing a follow-up — the group has been touring with Ben Kweller in support of the self-explanatorily titled EP.
The disc's first track, "Evergreen," finds Jones Street Station broadening its horizons. Blending harmonies and country, folk and rock influences, the band crafts a song that's both sweet and sad — about being together and alone, while still finding sunlight in the sadness. Propelled by an ambling melody and kind sentiment ("Won't you walk with me underneath the pine trees / Promise that we can be evergreen"), a stroll together makes the rest of the world disappear.
