Weld Vs. Helms

— NPR's Tovia Smith reports that Massachusetts Republican Governor William Weld resigns today in order to fight for Senate confirmation as the next US Ambassador to Mexico. Another Republican, Jesse Helms, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee intends to block Weld's confirmation. Lt. Governor Governor Paul Celluci succeeds Weld as governor.
