Rick Karr Reports That Illinois Banned Commercial Fishing

for yellow perch yesterday, joining the three other states with Lake Michigan shorelines. The perch, once so abundant that restaurants gave them away free, have declined mysteriously in recent years. Sport anglers support the ban in the hope it will give stocks a chance to regenerate, but commercial fisherman see it as a threat to their livelihood.
