on the last-minute dash to file income tax returns before the yesterday's midnight deadline. The Academy of American Poets set out to ease taxpayers' suffering by distributing copies of T.S. Eliot's poem "The Wasteland" at post offices in several cities. The poem, which opens, "April is the cruelest month," was published seventy-five years ago...the Academy hopes that it can prove that poetry serves a real purpose in modern people's everyday lives.
