Tom Vitale reports Greg Osby is one of the most inventive saxophonists on the jazz scene today. Osby has no interest in kowtowing to tradition - he's incorporated hip hop, avant garde and straight-ahead into his music. His new CD is called Banned in New York. It was recorded with a single mic on a minidisc recorder at several live performances at Sweet Basil in New York. It's being released to look like a bootleg recording and will be sold at a budget price. The same group is performing at Sweet Basil this week (through Sunday).
