Set List

  • "O Mother"
  • "Gin"
  • "Call It a Day"

A native of Oregon now living in New York's Hudson Valley, singer-songwriter Kelleigh McKenzie captivates the audience in Morgantown, W. Va., with her unique performance style. On stage, McKenzie stands on a wooden stomp box and plays a sparse, clawhammer-style banjo and a guitar. Her rich, haunting soprano voice rests atop the old-time rhythms and nicely rounds out her sound.

Though McKenzie has only one album to her name, she's already won many accolades. She was declared a co-winner in the 2008 Mountain Stage New Song contest, with "Gin" winning in the "Best Song" category. Her debut album, Chances, recently received three Independent Music Award nominations.

This feature originally ran Apr. 17, 2009.
