Mother Earth

30 years ago this week, Apollo 8 astronauts on their way to the Moon looked back and saw the Earth in its entirety. It was the first time humans had seen the entire orb, rather than just a sliver from low earth orbit. Now, Vice President Al Gore wants to make that happen for putting a satellite into high orbit and beaming back the Earth's image to the Internet. NPR's Joe Palca has the story.
