Set List

  • "I Miss Being Broken"
  • "One Thing I Want"
  • "Freddy's Backroom"
  • "The Friedman Holler"

Describing the career paths of multifaceted performer Andy Friedman is as difficult as classifying his music. A widely published illustrator steeped in musicians such as Dave Van Ronk, the New Lost City Ramblers and Spider John Koerner, Friedman plays songs from his art-country album Weary Things with his band The Other Failures, which comprises Matt Walsh on electric guitar, Greg Donahue on bass and Adriane Palikat on drums.

Friedman took his "Americana Slide Show Poetry" on the road in 2002, doing spoken-word poems while his photos, pencil sketches and paintings cycled onto the walls of small clubs across the country. The talking blues number "Freddy's Backroom" laments the metaphoric demolition of such clubs in favor of parking garages. The set concludes with "The Friedman Holler," which puts Friedman's career in perspective through a rockabilly beat.
